How An Ex-Spouses Social Security Will Be Affected

There are still some financial benefits that will remain in effect for divorced spouses in face of the new Tax Law. Upon retirement, a person can claim spousal Social Security benefits based on the earnings of an ex-spouse, provided that the couple was married for at least 10 years and the claimant remains unmarried.  This provision was not changed by the new Tax Law.
